Who runs the world? Girls. Beyoncé said it first but let’s just reinforce that message. In my group at university, we have been working on a piece for are Fashion Journalism module to explore women empowerment in a healthy 2020. This conducted as a location photoshoot with my group from one of the optional themes, as follows: Christmas morning, New years eve, and a healthy 2020.
The initial idea behind a healthy 2020 originally makes the reader think of gym wear and how to keep fit in the new year but we wanted to put a twist on the ‘new year, new me’ moto by making women feel empowered in male-dominated sports. The idea intends to contrast the stereotypes attached to femininity and place it in a rugged masculine environment. The girls and I chose Basketball, American Football, Boxing and Rowing which are each recognised as ‘men’s sports.’
The final edit below showcases me and the girls in sparkly and girly outfits to fit the theme of the photoshoot to demonstrate how women should not be afraid to express their inner boss babe and show a new outlook of feminity that assumes women doesn’t typically ‘belong’ in these environments.
Each outfit details are featured below each shoot as well as some behind the scenes to show you the locations we chose, props we used, hair and makeup and different angles you may want to consider using for your next shoot.
