If lockdown has taught me one thing it is to help out your local businesses whether if that is simply sharing the company on social media to spread word of mouth or simply buying something from them. Living in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, it is packed with so much culture and many little places I did not know existed until I stumbled upon them on my daily work. Here, is three local food businesses which you need to know about to treat yourself with.

If you live in the centre of Newcastle or are a regular person on Deliveroo, you may have heard of Gingerinos kitchen. Located in the heart of Ouseburn, they provide ‘handmade authentic thin and crispy stonebaked pizzas.’ I discovered the restaurant on a daily walk where I turned to my boyfriend and said we have to try it there because it looked so tasty. They have a range of traditional pizzas including Margherita and Pepperoni along with other classics too. If you are in the mood for an Italian evening they are 14 inches of tasty goodness at only £10. Although, they make a light lunch with one slice costing £2.50.
However, they also have mini calzone and cakes. These would make for a great dessert to top of your pizza although they are very filling but in a great way.
We all love a snack and especially since lockdown, I have been eating so many sweet treats and one of my favourites has to be doughnuts. If you do not know R place, then get to know because they are Instagram goals of food p*rn. They have so many choices available to choose from including filled, ring, vegan and traybakes too. All doughnuts are delivered to your doorstep available in boxes of six or twelve. R Place even offers limited edition boxes for your special events, you may have coming up including a fathers day box which is on sale now. They are perfect to treat your loved ones with but can go down fast because they are so tasty!

Di Meo Riverside
The Uk has recently had a mini heatwave which has called for one thing only…icecream. One of my favourite ice cream parlours is located on Whitley Bay seafront known as Di Meo which is an award-winning business and very popular for their gelato. I always look forward to having my classic sugar cone topped with a scoop of Kinder Nutella swirl and Milkybar, every time I visit the coast therefore when I discovered they opened a parlour ten minutes away from where I live, I was in my element. Located in the Ouseburn, Di Meo sells Pizzas, hot drinks and their classic flavours of gelato which you can find down the beach including mint choc chip, Biscoff (wow), Battenberg, red velvet and so much more. As my boyfriend would recommend he loves the Amarena cherry because it makes him so happy every time he treats himself to it. The Biscoff is also a great addition to any dessert too. I have not tried the pizza’s they sell as of yet. However, they do look very appetising with all affordable pricing too.
