Back to school tips + experiences

Hey everyone!

Next week I will be walking the long corridors again and having so much work on my hands because I will be back at school. I will be going into my last year of school which scares me a lot, yikes. Some of you reading this may be on your last year, starting high school, starting university I don’t even know. Yes I know they are all really scary things to think about so I thought I would share some of my tips and experiences with you and hopefully this will maybe help you all, even if it just helps one person reading this then that puts a smile on my face and makes me happy.

First Day + Fresh Start

So starting a new school can be pretty scary, I know the feeling I have been through it before and it isn’t nice. You basically feel like a little fish in a big pond…I think that’s how the saying goes. It can all be very scary and nerve racking. I went from a small primary school to this huge high school with loads of other people who I didn’t even know and it was hard because you’re then put into classes with all these new people and it can be quite tough. I went through a time at the start of year nine where I got moved into this new class and I didn’t know anybody. None of them went to my primary school and I had never spoke to none of them so I didn’t really enjoy it at first. I actually started to dread going to school and used to complain to my parents every day (sorry mum and dad). Until I soon enough started talking to people in the class and soon made friends very quickly. Some of the friends in that class I have become very good friends with and I’m pleased I managed to meet them. Sometimes it just takes that one simple conversation start a really good friendship. So don’t be scared to talk to people because as long as you be yourself they will soon love you for it.

Friendship groups
Leaning onto the topic of friendship groups. When moving to a new environment whether that is high school, university, college etc Friendship groups can sometimes be difficult. You’re going to have to talk to people anyways whether if that is in lessons or on the corridors so it’s good to have that friendship bond. You can make some of your best friends when being in school. When I moved into year seven, for the first few weeks I stuck with my friends from primary school until we sort of drifted away. This time was tough and I knew I had to try make some new friends so I did make a few more friends but it took me few times until I found some of my closest friends who I’m with now. The point is that friendship may come and go but the people who you may meet throughout this new journey will be some of your closest friends for life. It’s always good to meet new people and I’m happy I met the people who I’m really good friends with now but I still have some friends who I have grew up with when I was young and they can be some of the most important people in your life. So don’t be afraid because yesterday you may have been strangers but tomorrow you could be good friends.

Bullying
This is a very huge topic so I don’t want to go into too much detail about it but I just wanted to quickly mention it. Bullying is an issue which will always be there no matter where you go whether that is a new school or even outside of school it can happen any where. You won’t always get a long with everyone but just remember if you ever experience it to never retaliate because that is what they want and to always talk to someone because you’re not alone and there will always be someone there to help.

Work hard
The fourth an final tip is to work hard! Some of you reading this may love school or some may initially hate it but they do say school can be some of the best years of your life. So have fun, you’re with your friends and I know you might not enjoy the it but it is important and don’t stress. When starting high school I thought ‘oh I’m not going to get the homework done on time or I have been stressed about exams’ but trust me stress isn’t worth it. I’m not saying don’t try hard or don’t do your homework because you have to but don’t worry or stress about it as long as you try your best that’s what anyone can ask from you. Also don’t give up. I know it may sound cliché but if you have a dream or a goal then go for it, for example if you have a certain career you want then get the grades and go for it. Nobody is stopping you so achieve and succeed.

I hope this helped anyone reading and I hope you enjoy it because it is new year and fresh start so work hard and have fun!
